Vehicle Registration:

In Saskatchewan all motor vehicles must be registered with the Sask Auto Fund (SAF). Saskatchewan operates a mandatory vehicle registration and insurance program. When you purchase your licence plates, you also purchase basic insurance coverage that includes coverage for damage to your own vehicle subject to a $700 deductible; coverage for personal injury as a result of a vehicle crash; and, liability insurance for damage your vehicle causes to the property of others or injuries that it causes to other people. Basic liability insurance coverage provide by your vehicle registration is $200,000.

Additional insurance for your vehicle can be purchased from one of our insurance brokers to provide coverages above those included in the basic insurance that comes with your plates. Most vehicle owners purchase additional insurance coverage.

New vehicles - if you are registering a new vehicle, you will require a New Vehicle Information Statement which your dealer should have given you. Be sure to have this document before you come to register your vehicle as you cannot register it without this document.

Used vehicles - if you purchase a used vehicle in Saskatchewan, you must have proof of ownership to register and licence the vehicle. This can be either a bill of sale or the previous certificate of registration signed by the previous owner transferring ownership to you.

If you are purchasing a vehicle in another jurisdiction, contact our office for details on temporary insurance and vehicle inspections required before you can register the vehicle in Saskatchewan.
